Throughout my whole pregnancy journey I was treated with the highest care. From antenatal to post natal, it was all first class.
Special recognition to a midwife named Belinda in Altnagelvin Hospital who looked after me in antenatal whilst I was being induced. This lady made me feel so at ease and cared for. I knew my baby would be safe under her care. She had a lovely way with patients and always had a smile on her face, she is definitely a midwife that I will forever be grateful to had as part of my journey.
Second batch of people I’d like to thank are the doctors/ nurses in the labour ward. I remember some names of the midwives, Bronagh, Laura and Lisa Magee. These ladies motivated me throughout and safely delivered my baby even though things became a bit traumatic. Their care and attention paid to my husband was also incredible as they explained what was going on throughout and they always maintained their composure. The doctors that delivered my kiwi birth were also first class, they took the appropriate action when necessary and my daughter was delivered safely.
Thirdly, I am giving breastfeeding a go and it is very challenging. However, there is a fantastic member of health support services over in Shantallow that does the breastfeeding clinic, the lady is called Amanda. This lady has spent precious time with my family, educating and encouraging us to stick with the breastfeeding in an empowering way. This lady gave up her lunch break and gave her time to us so that I can give my daughter the best start to life. You can tell the difference between someone who works for a wage and someone who works because they have a desire to help and support others. Amanda definitely works because she loves her job and she has such a passion for what she does. This lady should be highly praised and I cannot wait for more sessions with herself, of which I have one soon as I feel like my daughter’s latch has become a bit lazy.
Overall I am so overwhelmed with the care I received from Altnagelvin hospital and Shantallow. In the future I hope that other first times mummy’s come across those I have highlighted as they truly made for a wonderful experience. Thanks you NHS
