Really an area that needs improved. Absolutely shocking treatment from the mental health liaison which has ended with admission to Holywell. Reports made and notes sent say patient was not engaging or willing when in reality they were bombarded with questions without allowing time to process the question never mind answer. Words put into my mouth in a rush phone call at 3am to my husband at home. Woken in a daze and he also felt the abruptness and attitude. I feel it almost crossed a line to harassment and given that they had all my notes and knew what issues I suffered with there was little understanding or compassion.
Absolutely horrific feeling to be in that position and now admitted to a psychiatric service and felt bullied by the Dr trying to detain me even though I quite willingly said I would stay on the ward. The Dr made me feel intimidated and totally caused a very poor foundation for the trust they are expecting me to build on.
Despite agreeing to stay they went ahead and started the procedure for detaining me. Thank fully after yet another stressful assessment with a GP and social worker they were in agreement I did not need to be detained. This happened after a visit to A&E where the I found the MH liaison was so rude and abrupt. Is it any wonder there are so many suicides and people don’t reach out for help. I’ve been here voluntarily (however without a choice) for over 24 hours. Now and already I feel 100 % worse than when I arrived. The psychologist I’ve been working with over the last few months said that ultimately, the patient knows best what will help and what won’t help but unfortunately no one listened to my opinion and I’m stuck In this facility I am voiceless, reach out people say.
How about people started reaching in: it’s not always possibly to make that approach. Especially considering the nurse sat at the next room down watching Netflix on their iPad. The others think is having a nap in the quiet room Who am I to disturb them with my worries and concerns. The general feeling I get is you are just another number, it’s just a job to some and more and more I am seeing that no one actually cares.
Of course I have met a few wonderful nurses who have been very helpful and more patient and understanding but it seems they are few and far between.
