"Endometriosis"

About: General practices in Western Isles Western Isles Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

For many years I suffered with chronic pain and many other symptoms i learned to struggle with. In 2020 I began really chasing answers for my pains, I was passed from DR to DR and department to department, gynaecology were terrible to deal with, made me feel like it was all in my head despite the great pain I feel. Gaslit me into a lot of self doubt which then add a mental struggle to my physical struggle.

Got a diagnosis December 2020 and since then ongoing care is non existent. If I didn’t agree to go on certain birth control they’re didn't seem interested. 5 years later and another surgery since and I am still in great pain but would rather struggle through with it than face a battle again.

Dear crocodilebt44

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on Care Opinion.

We are very disappointed to hear of your experience with health services and appreciate that what you describe has affected your physical and mental health.

We would be very happy to pursue management of your chronic condition if this is something you wish to undertake.

In the meantime we believe that there is a locally based Endometriosis Support Group on social media westernislesgroup@endometriosis-uk.org

There is also additional support and information available from the Scottish Charity https://endosos.org/

and there are online support groups available via National Charities https://www.endometriosis-uk.org/support-groups

These are useful resources that might offer you some ongoing support managing your condition, alongside working with local healthcare providers.

kind regards

Lizzie Beattie Consultant Anaesthetist/Associate Medical Director Acute Services

Update posted by crocodilebt44 (the patient)

Thanks for replying. I’ve joined many support groups which are supportive but don’t actually have a benefit to my health. I try to book an appointment doctors but they’re never available or aren’t in that day. I don’t know how I’m meant to peruse help if I can’t get an appointment. There’s 1 doctor who understands my history and it’s unhelpful being passed from post to pillar. I have no interest in dealing with the gynaecology team within Stornoway anymore.
