"The staff were wonderful"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as the patient),

I was a patient on ward 24 for a grand total of  15 days, where I was far from well.

Can I add the ward manager leads by example on the floor - doing meds, speaking to patients, real hands on.

I lived the hospital life, the staff were wonderful. I celebrated  -I suppose that’s the wrong word - but I became a nana for the 2nd time, and yes staff took time out to ask if I had pics of the baby.

I then turned 60 again in the ward, I was queen for day but really too ill to appreciate it.

The staff are hard working, genuinely care about patients, it’s a team that I found to go above and beyond.

I witnessed the nursing students being mentored, I have great faith in the kind caring staff of Ward 24.

There is one story I will share with you which just proves my point that they do give their all. One of the care assistants was getting a wife ready for her husband's funeral, so everyone else in the ward adhered to given said care assistant peace to attend. Anyway, he just made things happen, other ladies just sort gave smelliest posh shower gel, helped where and when requested.

Well done, you made that lady shine, even to putting on her lippy, most of the ward was emotional wreak as patients left for funeral, just shows not all heroes wear capes.

I have to say staff I agree are burnt out, and I think the good work going on in this ward must be recognised.

I have occassion  today to visit this ward again today, and it’s like a big hug as you enter, it’s not only nurses, the whole caring team of ward 24.

Well done and massive thanks to all for your compassion, care, kindness and humanity shown to me during my stay. I am so positive that the NHS and  ward 24 are an example of of good practice that should be shared, as I said the ward manager leads by example, maybe if there were more like her then hospital life would be better for patients.

Thank you one and all.

Dear lindsay925

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback on Care Opinion.

Firstly I would like to wish you a very happy 60th birthday from myself and everyone here at NHSGGC. I was delighted to hear you were treated like a 'queen' by the staff on your special day.

I would also like to congratulate you on becoming a nana for the second time. You must be over the moon.

We are extremely proud of the work Ward 24 do on a daily basis so to hear this echoed by our patients is very heart warming.

I will be sure to pass on your feedback to the team who I'm sure will be as touched as I was to read your lovely comments.

I hope your latest appointment went well and your recovering well back at home.

Kind regards

Kevin
