"Love, compassion and kindness"

About: Inpatient Unit Outpatients Department / Complementary Therapy Outpatients Department / Wellbeing

(as a relative),

Our stepmother was in the latter stages of colon cancer when we were blessed to be offered a place for her in St. Andrews Hospice.

It is difficult to put into words the full extent of  the loving care offered to her and us at this time .

Her physical needs and comfort were managed with the utmost love, care and professionalism at every stage.

The doctors worked tirelessly to provide the best treatments for her to manage her pain but also to avert unwanted side effects; such a delicate balancing act but so carefully and thoughtfully attended to.

We all felt very safe, valued and protected there.

Nothing was ever too much trouble and the staff treated her with respect, dignity  and affection and took the time to get to know her.

On one particular day we arrived to find her hair had been styled and her make up applied.

This kind act made her so happy and lifted her spirits immeasurably.

She asked me if the nurses were angels !

This I understand because the level of love and kindness demonstrated could only be described as such .

She received reiki and aromatherapy which  relaxed and comforted her.

Sister Katherine would often come to speak with her to offer her spiritual support.

She always seemed calm after these visits .

In every possible way her needs were met as were ours.

St Andrews Hospice and staff are so special.

A unique combination of expertise and care but guided by love . ❤️

We send our deep gratitude to all who work there and to the many people who support by generous giving .
