My son is 8 years old and has sacral agenesis, he is a full time wheelchair user and is fiercely independent. He has neurogenic bladder and bowel because of his sacral agenesis. He can be independent with changing with the correct continence products but I am having to buy them because they are not on the formulary. I have been told he can’t have pull ups or thicker pads during the night because of landfill and that night time products are not encouraged! He is not struggling to toilet train, he will be incontinent his whole life. I don’t think it is fair that he is not assessed as an individual. If I was not buying the products (which come from the same company the NHS use) he would have his independence taken away from him.
