"Coordinated Care"

About: General practices in Lothian Western General Hospital / Same day emergency care (SDEC)

(as a service user),

I called by GP surgery, Bangholm Medical Practice, concerned I had a DVT. The receptionist was v helpful and within 30 mins the GP called me back and then arranged an apt in SDEC at Edinburgh Western General hospital later that day. She was able to call SDEC and I heard the conversation which appeared very efficient and person/patient focused. Even though they didn't work together there appeared great team work.

I attended SDEC as planned where I was greeted with friendliness and then seamlessly brought through a process of blood tests, US scan and review by an advanced nurse practitioner.  Small waits at some stages but to be expected as many other people were also being treated at the same time.

All staff were incredibly friendly but professional and clear in their communication.

A nice touch in SDEC was that they had a hot water urn and an array of hot/cold drinks with some nice snacks. Small things like this make a difference!

I went home with a plan and assurance of the diagnosis.

Thank you everyone. NHS😍
