"Me as a visitor"

About: Rochford Community Hospital

(as a relative),

Uncaring staff coming between mother and daughter, manager telling me that they did not care about NHS mistakes and that my mother was suffering with a sore mouth which she was taken in for as mother was taking an antihistamine. Antihistamines can mimic dementia in older people and hospital failed to give mother her chemo pill. Now on a cocktail of medication.

I am the only person my mother wants to visit her, but every visit is supervised. This comes from the new doctor who does not know me and took over from doctor who retired and recommended that my Mother goes home before they left. This is my Mother's life and she just wants to get home and get on with her life.

I feel that Rochford Beech Ward is a hostile environment, no respect for older people nor patients and families. For an NHS place there has not been a lot of caring for the patients. Even heard a nurse tell patient to behave or I will give you a shot. There are some kind nurses but prob only one, the rest have behaved like bullies.

Two years my mother has been in this place and in my view they have ruined a whole family. If these people were out of our lives my mother's family maybe could put this behind us and get on for my Mother. Dementia has been put on her and it seems they could not care less about her blood cancer.

The visitor room is 9 times out of 10 very dirty. They had to close recently to visitors due to sickness in the ward and even a patient died in the ward.

I am desperate to get my Mother away from this place. At my most recent visit, I was escorted out as I told my Mother about manager saying they did not care about anything and their missed appointments under their care for my Mother's oral care. Nurse said I'm not allowed to say these things and expects me to lie to my Mother about her health and wellbeing. I think not. This upset my Mother very much and I cannot see how she is now as no one ever answers the phone.
