"Outstanding care"

About: Trauma & Orthopaedics / Ward 23

(as a relative),

Ward 23 Altnagelvin

Last August my 85 year old father tripped and fractured hip and was unable to walk and was cared for so carefully by Kurt, the nursing team, all support staff, the physiotherapy and occupational health teams linked to this ward 23.

At one point OT began and physiotherapy stopped but they did not give up and for this my family are eternally grateful. He made great progress in walking.

During this time my mother suddenly passed and the team were so supportive during this traumatic time.

They also supported my dad to move to rehab in Derry. I know that they continued to check on his progress even after he left Ward 23.

As a result after rehab my father is about to start to walk with a cane

Thank you ward 23

Hi Patriciac25x, my name is Aidan Rooney and I am the Principal Physiotherapist for the Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team. I will pass on your thanks to the team, but on behalf of the physio team can I say how pleased we are that your father continued to progress after he left Altnagelvin, and we are delighted to hear that he is now walking with a cane.

Many thanks

Aidan Rooney

Hi patricia25x

my name is Celina McConnellogue I am the ward manager in ward 23, I remember your father very well as does the whole team on ward 23. He went through a lot and to lose your mother during his recovery period was so difficult. It is wonderful news to hear he has progressed so well to using a cane. I will happily pass on your lovely message to kirk and the nursing team on ward 23. please send our best wishes onto your father.

kind regards

Celina
