"The nurses were very nice"

About: Whitehills Health & Community Care Centre / Minor Injuries

(as the patient),

My husband and I were heading out of the house, on a walk, with our 3 dogs.  They were very excited and started playing with each other.  I was checking in my doggy bag to check I had ‘poo’ bags, when the dogs bumped into my legs and I went down on to the paving.

I started screaming because it was my face that I landed on.  My husband hurried back to me and lifted me up.  I had a burst lip, nose and chin.  My new glasses only 3 days old were all scratched too.

We went straight to Whitehills Hospital, hoping to be seen by A&E.  However you now have to be referred by a doctor and the receptionist at the hospital will call you back with an appointment.  That made me feel awful as I wasn’t being seen right away.   I got an appointment about 2 hours after my fall by which time I was feeling much better and felt that I was wasting their time.

The nurses were very nice and extremely thorough at checking me over from head to toe.

My husband felt much better knowing that I had been checked out.

Hello Fudgie,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story on Care Opinion. The feedback we receive helps us to review and improve our service so is very much appreciated.

I am sorry to hear that you had a fall and sustained facial injuries, I hope your injuries are healing well and you have been able to get your glasses repaired. I am glad to hear that the nurses were nice and you received a thorough examination.

It is unfortunate that you had to wait 2 hours for your appointment but due to busy spells at both the GP practice and Minor Injuries Unit (MIU), the referral process can sometimes take a little bit longer. The reason for changing MIU to an appointments system was to cut down on waiting times in the department, allowing service users to sit in the comfort of their own home to wait for their appointment.

I will be sure to pass on your kind words to the staff that treated you.

Kind regards

Donna
