"highest level of treatment and care"

I attended the Day Case Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital for hand surgery last week under Mr Lappin and would like to share my extremely positive experience!

I received the highest level of treatment and care as soon as I arrived in the unit until I left. The gentleman on Reception was so friendly & welcoming, and greeted me with a great big smile. The lovely nurse Joan called me in and carried out all my pre-op checks, she was great and made me feel so relaxed. During the wait for my surgery I was seen by the consultant anaesthetist Richard (who I cannot think enough, He is absolutely fantastic and so down to earth. He made me feel so at ease and made everything so much easier, I was very nervous), Mr Lappin the surgeon and another Doctor who took the time to listen to me and explain everything so well.

I was then taken down to theatre by another lovely nurse and I was met by numerous other medical staff. Everyone took time to introduce themselves and explain everything they were doing. I felt very chilled and relaxed, (my previous surgical experiences were a lot different) and before I knew it I was awake in recovery.

I was greeted again by Joan and a number of other nurses in recovery who were absolutely fantastic including Ellie and Josephine. Despite how busy it was and being short staffed on that particular day they were always by the bedside to ensure I was feeling ok, and offering numerous cups of tea/coffee.

I honestly cannot speak highly enough of all the staff I encountered on my visit to the Day Case Unit in Altnagelvin that day and would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you! As a surgical nurse myself I know how busy it can be especially when you are short staffed , but you are all fantastic!🥰🥰

I have had procedures done privately and I didn’t experience anywhere near the same care and treatment I received here. Everything runs so smoothly and is so well organised. Thank you again💙💙
