My son has been on the CMT waiting list for at least 6 months to get an appointment. He got a letter to arrange an appointment to which I, his mother and carer, made that call. I explained that my son has a temporary job and would only be able to take the call from 10.30 as he would be on his break.
He subsequently received a letter form the service to say he had been discharged by a Mental Health Nurse. Due to the fact they tried to contact my son at 11am, 11.02, 11.12, 11.14 and also 11.03 on the home number and could not contact my son. There is a poor mobile reception in our area and l was working that day and my son was also at work. Hence the reason this nurse has discharged my son.
My son was very distressed by this letter and this has not helped with his anxiety levels. Does the person doing this role not realise the vulnerability of young adults with autism? Where is their empathy and understanding?
On the other hand he has a key worker in the CMHT in Cookstown who has demonstrated so much compassion and care towards to my son. They have taken considerable time to engage him and encourage him to attend the Condition Management Programme and now this has been overridden by this letter from the nurse.
