"Speech & Language Therapy - Astley Ainslie Hospital"

About: Astley Ainslie Hospital / Rehabilitation

(as a relative),

During my husband's stay at the Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh over 7mths in 2023, the support and assistance received from his Speech and Language Therapist could not have been better. My husband progressed from someone unable to communicate via any medium, to being able to  use facial & verbal communication and even draw.

Though not the fully finished article, without the dedication of his SAL therapist, his trajectory would be on a whole different path. The SAL therapist put huge amounts of effort and thought into each session, tailoring communication tools and resources to engage my husband not only as a patient, though a person. His sessions were always geared to stimulate him via the interests the therapist took time to understand, learning about his hobbies, likes dislikes, his personality and his values, not just pro-forma tick list type of engagement.

I shall forever be grateful for the exceptional SAL therapist my husband had whilst at the Astley Ainslie in Edinburgh, the epitome of person centric care
